Yesterday, the JCP EC approved the final draft of the JSR 291. The voting was clear in favor of the JSR and as far as I think, the only two negative vote are more related to political issues than technical. Let’s hope that this will give the right signal for the the JSR 277 to concider compability with OSGi R4.1/ JSR 291 and improve componentization in Java. Please feel free to chime in and congratulate the makers of the spec at the Glyn’s blog.

UPDATE: The TCK and RI are available from this website http://www2.osgi.org/JSR291

For everyone who is interested in the JSR 277 specification, the team now decided to offer a public accessible observer mailing-list. Just go to http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/jsr277-eg-observer/ and subscribe to the list or browse the archive. I think, this is a great step towards more visibility of the spec teams actual work and the reasons, why certain technology or architectural decisions are made.

After having talked about it for quite a while, I finally managed to setup the blog. Don’t expect too much, I am just going to comment about things crossing my mind. So everyone hoping to get regular or even epic entries - I am sorry to disappoint you, but that’s not gonna happen. Well, at least it is not planned yet.
If you are wondering what it’ll be about, well I for sure wanted to create a pretty good link list of OSGi relevant sources out there in the web. Right now, I was missing that a lot. Ok, google does a decent job, but sometime you first know, what you are looking for, when you actually found it - that’s live!
Cheers,
Mirko
